‘Tis So Sweet
Louisa M. R. Stead wrote the hymn, ‘Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus, in 1879 after watching her husband drown while trying to save a drowning boy. Out of her grief, her asking “why?” she wrote these words:
1. ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise, And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
Refrain:
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er;
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
Oh, for grace to trust Him more!
2. Oh, how sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me ’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!
3. Yes, ‘tis sweet to trust in Jesus, Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace.
4. I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee, Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me, Wilt be with me to the end.
God is the anchor of our soul, our steadfast hope, no matter what storm is tossing our soul.
Hebrews 6:18-19 tells us “we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place”
It is God’s Word that revives, heals, teaches, counsels, and instructs us.
Psalm 19:7 – 11 tells us, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
God proves Himself over and over again in the dailyness of our lives. He is our God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Corinthians 1: 3-4)
All the promises of God find their Yes in Jesus. That is why, through Him, we can utter Amen to God for His Glory (2 Corinthians 1:20); that is why it is so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word; Just to rest upon His promise, And to know, “Thus saith the Lord!”
